Commentary Cooroy is a small village located 25 kilometres inland from Noosa Heads, located in the northern Sunshine Coast hinterland about 25 kilometres west of Noosa Heads which provides services to the surrounding dairy and timber industries. Cooroy's name came from Cooroy Mountain, which was originally called Coorooey, from the Aboriginal word for possum.
This township is the closest rail head to the coast
and is a growing rural residential area with
hundreds of homesteads dotted along the rolling
countryside.
Noosa Botanical Gardens can be found at Lake
MacDonald, about five kilometres from Cooroy. This
beautiful spot is popular with visitors and
photographers.
SchoolsCooroy has two state schools in the area. Cooroy State Primary School and Noosa District State High School (Cooroy Campus). Cooroy State Primary offers years P–7 while Noosa District State High School offers years 8 - 12.
